I'm curious to know why other speaker manufacturers haven't released a 7.1 speaker system like Creative Labs (click here), is 5.1 really that much better than 7.1? It seems to me that speaker manufactures would jump on the opportunity to milk more money out of consumers by releasing a 7.1 speaker system.

There are very few applications for 7.1... and 7.1 isn't even discrete, from what I understand-- just a gimmick.

I think there's MAYBE one DVD that features 7.1... if that.

I think there aren't any applications, other than having that 1 extra speaker. 6.1 is as high as being really kinda useful goes. 5.1 just has way more stuff for it.
