Hey all. Been a while since I have been here and boy has it changed!

Anyway, I know the smartest and the bestest is here.

I found a great mATX motherboard. It is a Intel OEM board for Dell. The Intel Part number is D865VP. It has no onboard Video, an 8x AGP slot, four Dual channel DDR400 memory slots and an 865PE chipset! It was low cost and sounded soooo sweet. It works fine, but when it boots it says it is a Dell 4600 and I wanted to get rid of this. In the old days you could edit a bios pretty easy. But this board has a Windows bios update .exe file that is automatic. I can't disect the file, and I don't know what I am seeing in the hex editor. I have a text version of the code in the .exe file. Is there anyway that anyone knows of how to extract the bios ".bin" or "bio" file from the chip that is on the board via software? It has an AMI bios and the chip is soldered on the motherboard.

Thanks in advance....

Missed you guys!

Reed

The sister site is still at Delphi :)

I couldn't find that board with the ID you gave. Can you run Everest or something to get a better MB ID? Then you could get a bios from the Makers site.

I think that will work - if not check back and I will go there myself. If you are asking about everest, its made by Lavalys and you can google it. It will tell you more than you wanted to know about your system.

All you have to do to disable the Dell Logo is go into your bios. Once in bios go to boot options menu. There will be a setting called :) silent boot. Disable this setting save and exit.

Thank you!

I thought that the silent boot needed to be enabled to get rid of the logo.

Manta, Not sure you will find that in a Compaq bios. Will depend on age of PC. DP :)
