Please read everything carefully so things go smoothly

Only post here to say you want to be in the contest.

After that come back and edit the post to include the description of each processor you have actually added and is working on a WU or has finished one.

The administrators will use this info to post unofficial results throughout the contest and to help determine the ultimate winners at the end of the contest.

Another thread will be available for questions, comments and (heaven forbid) complaints.

Now down to the nitty gritty.

Who is eligible?

Anyone who is a member of the MaximumPC Folding team (has completed at least one WU) and has less than 55,000 points under their folding username (at the time they posted their intent to participate in the contest). This number may rise but will not go lower. They also can not be donators of prizes to the contest.

What can I win ?

First place
- 5 respectable machines pointed at your username for 6 weeks.

- 1 DFI AMD Socket A KT600 MB up to 3200+ (new in the box).
Build yourself another folder after the contest.

Second place
- 5 respectable machines pointed at your username for 4 weeks.

- 1 ATI 9700 Graphics Card (used but not abused)
May improve some gaming machine you have or get another folder
up and running.

Third Place
- 5 respectable machines (actually 6) pointed at your username
for 2 weeks.

- 1 Microsoft IntelliMouse PS2 (white) new still in the plastic.
Purchased in a bulk pack.

If you don't win any of the above, there is still hope.

Anyone who enters the contest and adds at least one processor to their active 50 day total will be in a drawing. The only ones not in this drawing are the folks that won 1st, 2nd or 3rd place in the actual contest or those that failed to add one additional processor during the contest.

The winner of the drawing can choose between

1 - ATI 9700 Graphics card (used but not abused)
May improve some gaming machine or get another folder
up and running.

OR

2 - thats quantity (2) Netgear WG311V2 54 Mbps PCI Adapters
They are for desktops (Used but not abused)
Move some machines to fold where its cooler.

Now a little pain in the butt stuff

All physical prizes will be mailed to the address you provide with mailing costs covered.

We hope the contest will start 7/1/05 and end 7/31/05. We need at least 50 contestants to justify the prizes and point production from the donators. If necessary the start and end date will slide out to allow for more participation. Tell your friends and relatives about the contest, if they don't want to fold for you maybe they will want to join the team, fold for themselves and win the contest. You would still be helping make the contest a success.

Please don't comment in your post here about what you are going to do to get some large number of new recruits. Only add info on actual machines that are up and folding. Bragging, planning or anything else can go in the other thread called Add-a-Box questions, comments and complaints.

The best of plans can fail to materialize and we don't want people to become discouraged about their chances (and stop trying) by someone else's imaginary folding machines.

How a winner will be determined:

The number of processors active in the last 50 days and the last 7 days will be recorded on the first day of the contest and the last day of the contest (as close to midnight as possible).

The person with the largest increase will be the winner, next largest second place and the next third place.

Processors added just before and just after those dates can't be counted. Control the timing of your new processors coming on line as best you can.

Since it would be possible to get people to do one WU and pump-up your number of processors in the last 50 days, and since slower machines may drop off the active in the last 7 days. The administrators of the contest will judge if the winners results appear reasonable from their experience. The list of machine descriptions added will be compared to the number of processors reported at Stanford. A person could be passed over but it is not likely to happen.

In case of ties
(If you get bored reading this part, skip down to "The goals of the contest are:")

Let's hope there are none, but if there are.

For example:

Two people tie for first
We will divide up the point production prize fairly and each will get half of the first place and second place amounts.
The physical prizes will have to be handled by a drawing. The first name drawn will get the first place prize and the other the 2nd place prize.

Two people tie for second
We will divide up the point production prize fairly and each will get half of the second place and third place amounts.
The physical prizes will have to be handled by a drawing. The first name drawn will get the second place prize and the other the third place prize.

Two people tie for third
They divide up the third place point production equally.
The physical prize will have to be handled by a drawing. The first name drawn will get the prize and the other will not get a prize because there is none below third place.

Sorry this all sounds confusing. I wouldn't worry about it again if I were you, unless it happens. We can work it out then. It just needed to be discussed before hand so as not to come as a complete surprise.

The goals of the contest are:

for everyone to have a little fun

new folders to learn more about folding (quickly)

retention of folders on the team

A boost in point production for the team

A boost in folding production for Stanford

If we can do all that, we are really doing something and there will be no losers.

If you don't win anything, you will have more point production, more friends or relatives to share folding with, lots more knowledge of how folding works, perhaps a big farm in your attic or basement and who knows you may be a top 20 producer of the future and helping new folders learn to fold for the cure. No one loses.

Lets get started. (Actually just get planning and promoting the contest, because it won't start until 7/1/05 at the earliest.)

Build, buy, recruit or arm twist. Add to your farm or add to your collective, after the contest starts. And have fun.

Remember that the entire team is here to support your efforts. Technical questions, general questions about folding or anything that comes up, post for help anytime. We want you to be successful.

If you are new and a little shy about posting questions, private message anyone you think might know the answer and if they don't they will find it for you.

I think I covered it all. You can show me where I was wrong, in the other post on questions, comments and (heaven forbid) complaints.

*Please note, let's not "chat" in this thread, if you have questions, please see his Comments and Heaven Forbid Complaints thread. All chatting will be moved out of this post.

Thanks,

Blondie

I want to enter the contest

The above, or something like it, should be entered as soon as possible to let us know you want to participate in the contest. If you fold under another name - please include that name.

It is not necessary to list all your current machines, but it's your post have fun.

All the following (examples) would be entered after the contest begins and probably at different times. They will be used to compare the winners Stanford totals to the actual machines added - Should that be necessary

I have added a P3 1.2 GHZ 512MB RAM It's my Mom's machine. I'm not sure if I can get her to run 24/7, but I'm trying.

I added my friend Bob he has a P4 3 GHZ 1 GB gaming monster. I had him install the console version because I was told that's best for big time gamers.

I got a P4 3.2 GHZ 512MB RAM for my birthday it started folding right after the party. I guess those parents of mine are all right after all.

If you know how to add a link to your Stanford User Stats, it would be helpful
(but not required - example link follows)

I'd like to enter.

Currently, I'm only folding on one AMD 2100+ 512 MB

EOC 12,304 6/21

Edit 7/3: I've added my gf's laptop. It's a P4 2 GHz/512 ram i believe. Won't have that much internet connectivity for this month, but it'll be a fulltime folder afterwards :)

Also added the two family computers: a PII 350/256 MB and a PII350/512 MB

Edit 7/12: Got my friend to install folding on his family laptop, which pretty much idles 24/7. P4 2GHz/256 MB RAM

Edit 7/14: Just got a a PIII 1GHz/512 MB that i just picked up running fah. It should be on all the time

Edit 7/19: Added another PIII 1GHz/512 MB. Nearly identical to previous system, except that I only expect it will be up 12-14 hrs a day :(

Edit 7/30: Added friend's family comp, a P4 2.2 GHz/512 RAM and his laptop, celeron 1.4 GHz (i believe)/512 RAM. Both should be on pretty consistantly

Two accounts so equal to 2 procs but will be evened out by how slow/long its on.
An x86 processor, 256mb, 24/7 - High-Speed <- Friends
An x86 processor, 256mb, 24/7 - High-Speed <- Friends
P4 2.8Ghz, 512mb, 24/7 - High-Speed <-Friends
P4 3.06Ghz, 512mb, laptop... - 56k (High-Speed at college) <- Sisters

*Soon* I'll check specs, Most of Day - High-Speed <-Friends

*Possibly* A-XP 1800+ 1.5Ghz, 512mb, Most of Day - High-Speed <-Friends
*Possibly* Not sure, having trouble - High-Speed <- Friends
*Possibly* Not sure, need to talk to person - High-Speed <- Friends
**Possibly** P4 1.5Ghz, 256mb, Most of Day - High-Speed <- Friends
**Possibly** P4 1.5Ghz, 256mb, Most of Day - High-Speed <- Friends
**Possibly** P4 3.0Ghz, 1gb, Most of Day - High-Speed <- Friends

I'm dropping out of the competition! Just so you guys know. I don't trust just about any of my folders anyway. I can't tell if they're folding or not. So, I'm out, of course I'll still be recruiting, but this will take the stress away from me while I'm on vacation.

I added my sisters laptop. It won't send in a WU until she gets it online, which will be back at home...But, it has a 60 pointer ready to be sent in. I should've downloaded a bunch of cores but I don't know how to...
