Hi all. I currently have a Linksys cable modem, Docsis 1.1, and I was wondering if there was much of a difference between it & a DOCSIS2.0 modem, such as the Toshiba PCX2600? Anyone know if there's any difference in performance/speed between 1.1 & 2.0?

TIA,
Bill

I upgraded from a 3Com CMX (1.0) to that fruity looking motorola Surfboard modem (2.0) and there was no speed difference between the two.

there shouldn't be any speed diffrences no matter what modem you goto, cos all ur speed and connection is all based on files sent to ur modem from ur isp, if u were to hack the cablemodem and change the files on it.. then u would need a modem to be able to do that.

As the above poster said, you wouldn't notice much of a difference at all. The real "bottleneck", if you have one, is going to be your ISP.

I changed my cable modem to a Motorola Surboard 5100 from a Toshiba 1100.

While my download speed didn't change, my upload speed did.

Basically, a neglible difference. However the surboard has better LEDs and a Kill switch in case something bad happens.

Dude, it's about time you showed up here, have you been slumming around the old forum or just lurking in the background?

Getting a new cable modem can make a huge difference. I was getting Highspeed internet which was 3mbts down and 380kb/s up. I purchased a new modem for $80 and I now get 5mbts down, and 800kb/s up. That is basically doubled performance. By the way I use Rogers Cable. Great ISP in Canada.
