Have you ever had your printer all of a sudden print trash? Or only print one page, then mysteriously lock up? Or, not be able to print, say, 11x17"? Here's a few tricks and tips for you:

1.) Periodically check your printer manufacturer's website for driver updates. While printer driver won't be updated as quickly or often as a video card, if you bought a printer that "just came out," you might clear up a couple of glitches by updating the drivers.

2.) When you're not printing, power off your inkjet. This keeps the cartridge assembly parked and sealed, preventing ink and heads from drying up.

3.) If your getting gibberish printed, or nothing printed, your printer's memory might be corrupted from previous print jobs that the printer didn't purge from it's memory. Every printer has some memory to assist the speed of printing, from 8k to 512Mb. This undocumented fix will clear The printer's memory, and fix about 75% of printing problems:

A.) Unplug the printer's power cord from the back of the printer.
B.) Hold the power button down on the printer for 10-15 seconds. If your printer doesn't have a power button, hold down the sheet eject button instead.
C.) Plug the power cord back into the printer.
D.) Try reprinting the job.

4.) Do not use generic inks or refill kits for your inkjet printer, unless your printer is out of manufacturer's warranty. While the Government is drafting a bill to legally enforce printer manufacturers to support aftermarket cartridges, they don't and won't support them as yet.

5.) Check your ink levels! If your output is faded, streaky, or missing colors, an ink is either clogged, or nearly empty. Run a cleaning cycle (Use your printer's utility) or install a fresh ink.
