I have an old HP that I want to sell but it's Hard drive is dying (has bad sectors on it) and I want to take the O/S (Win 98 SE) off of that hard drive(Seagate) and put it on to a Western Digital hard drive. I have Norton Ghost but I'm not having any luck copying it. I even tried plugging both hard drives into the computer (master-slave) but for some reason the comptuer won't recognize them when there in together (possible because their two different manufactures?).

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Techgeek

if you still have access to the hdd from the HP computer, backup the data from that hdd and install win98 se fresh in your western digital hdd.

Western digital drives have two different sets of jumpersettings. (Master if single drive) and (master if slave attached). You will need to make a partition big enough to store an image on the seagate, make youir image in the partition, switch drives putting the seagate as slave and the WD as master with the proper settings, boot from floppy or CD with imaging program on it, and restore to the WD. Pay attention to drive and partition sizes so you don't get confused as to what is what when in dos or command interface.

I use Drive Image 6 for these jobs but it ain't free.
