if you are not gonna overclock your ram you can go crucial. check out www.crucial.com they make awesome ram. they have their regular line and their crucial ballistix memory which are overclockers. i have experience with crucial's regular line of memory and they work great.

they dont cost that much and i think crucial provides lifetime warranty i think. might wanna check that out.

here is what i recommend:

mobo and cpu:

memory: crucial

im assuming you want only the mobo, cpu, and ram since this is what your topic is all about. probably other people can make a better recommendation.

You're kidding on the S754 proc + mobo? There's a negligible performance difference between the 3400+ and 3500+ procs, so you might as well go with the highly supported socket (939) anyway. Or perhaps you're just catching up? Or am I acting like an ass and is forgetting something? :P

Btw, the 3400+ Clawhammers are rare.

im tired and doing this for a friend... to answer most the questions. This is only for the mobo, cpu, and ram. I'm not exactly sure what the prices or specs on anything are, thats why i said "around."

i went for the 3400 cause it was dam cheap and i dont plan to upgrade video on this box.

as for cpu ram and mobo, for $600, that's plenty.

Generally, what's suggested for great performance is a 3500+, sli or ultra mobo, and a gig of ddr3200.

so the ram i suggested (116), a 3500+ (270 - i know, not a winnie, but $60 more for something which isn't going to be oced? bah, it's not that much of an oven)
and for mobo, there's the dfi nforce4 ultra and asus nforce4 sli

you can get lower cost mobos, without missing much, and drop the proc down to a lower speed without sacrificing much power.
