I need a system piece together for under 1000 the only think I perfer is to have an LCD. This system is going to be mainly use for surfing, making cds and dvds and slight gaming (ie Madden and Teris).

what aobut other aspects? upgradability and such?
from newegg - no links, but just use the dollar amount to find stuff

$332 - NU L921G 19 - 19" lcd
$155 - amd 3000+
$60 - GEIL value series memory - 1 512MB dimm
$99 - chaintech nf4 ultra vnf4 - chaintech is good for stock stuff. They offer a complete package. Good stock, low on oc options, but they oc decently anyway. I'm going cheap here, this fits fine.
101.25 - maxtor 200GB
$55 - samsung double layer 16x dvd-r
$35 - skyhawk MSR4611 - i use this case, i love it. All aluminum.
$47 - coolmax 450W taurus silent power - i use this also, it's remarkably quiet.
$99 - Gigabyte 6200 128MB ddr (not the turbocache crap) - decent card, every game you can find would be playable.

total 1003.25
for a system that's very upgradable - with a 19" lcd. Trust me, they're beautiful :)

edit : do you have to buy software too?

Good one, Beomagi. Fitting a 19" LCD in that low of a budget is really something!

no I dont have to get software I just need an idea for a system. As for the Case is concerned I could probably use and Antec with a build in 350 and that would put me under the 1000 mark, thanks a million dude!

yeah rickrock, if you can fit the antec case in, do it. antec makes awesome cases and power supplies and then dont even cost that much, thats what i like about them.

ive read good news about the NU 19inch LCD but ive never actually seen it. i know that it doesnt cost that much and that its good for gaming as well.

dob posted on a 6600 he saw at newegg for 109 - $7 more for that card would be great. you can lose .5 case bonus to memory and go for kinsgston vam - 3-3-3 and lose only 2 bucks. Going with a cheaper case/psu to bring it under a k.

celeron d's arnt your old celerons. They're based on teh prescott core (i know that doesn't sound good) but the overall performance isn't bad.

http://www.xbitlabs.com/articles/cpu/di ... ron_6.html

while it is weak in gaming, you'll be able to play madden comfortably, perhaps the most challenging thing that you described in the first post. other stuff like media it's quite good at.
in fact

see that winrar? that's a bench that favours current a64!

of course, its a hell of a lot slower than the a64 line, and higher grade p4s. But the main reason i chose that was because the only athlon64 available for a low cost pcieboard costs $155, whereas, that pcie setup with that celeron, is quite upgradable for the future - pcie, and a current p4 775 interface.

ah yes - the other reason i chose that - they overclock insanely well.

ohyes - when looking at the benches, look for the position of the old celeron, the 2.8. it's a far cry from the new ones.
Now i'm not saying this is a goood chip, i'm sayin its sufficient for your needs, and would be upgrade friendsly sporting pci-e and 775. the amd system with 19" Is a better overal system, but if the better monitor breaks the deal when so you have it.

The 20.1 inch monitor is pointless unless you have a better card to play games at the actual resolution of 1600x1200.

it not for games really - madden and tetris? read the thread first post. i tried a 20 incher cause it's 1600x1200 - quite nice for 2 webpages side by side, very nice desktop res.

it's weak, and if it were me i'd go for the 19" with the a64 but the main reason i suggested that is i just wanted to see if it could be done :P upgradable system using a 20" monitor and having pci-e for future graphics upgrades.
