I don't know about you, but I dont like many of the services and files that XP installs on my system. I am constantly downloading programs, checking out new cool toys, installing, uninstalling and such. I also like to have my interface tweaked as well with Cursor XP, Windowblinds/Desktop X and the like. And I have such programs as Spybot, Norton, WinAmp, PowerArchiver and other essentials that I cannot live without.

My question is this.

Is there a way to either:
1) create a restore disk that not only has my tweaked XP, but also the myriad of 'essentials' that I have? Something that I can freshly install on a newly reformatted HD so that I do not have spend 8 hours getting my system back into gear?

or 2) a way to use Norton Ghost or similar program to do the same thing without having more than one HD or partition?

It would be immensely helpful to simply fdisk my system and pop in my Windows Tweaked XP CD (or DVD most likely) and freshly install my Essential OS.

ghost and 2nd partition or 2nd HD is your best bet AFAIK.

Ghost 2002 backs up to CD-R or RW.

I'm sure Ghost 2003 does as well, but I'm not sure if it backs up to DVD or not.

Yesh, I know I can back up to CD, but my question is, Is there a way to 'install' the backup on a newly reformatted HD.

Yes. You'll need to make a Ghost Boot disk.

And to verify, Ghost 2003 does back up to DVD.

Yup. Programs like Norton/symantec Ghost or Acronis True Image both support burning directly to CD.

***edit***
Cripes. Guess I should read the whole thread before jumping in eh?

Yeah, you just tell the program to 'restore the image' to the hard drive.
