Ok I'm starting with the Asus Maximus VII Hero motherboard
Intel I5 4690 devils canyon cpu
evga gtx 660 (I may possibly change this and use this 660 in my box depending on what I hear here. I will upgrade as soon as funds allow though)

I'm now thinking about replacing his hdd and putting in a ssd boot drive and a new storage drive...at least a TB instead of what he has. He is really antsy now that some of the parts are here so the faster I get help the better off my life will be.

Who is making the best ssd drives? I only want about 150GB to use as a boot drive but I know nothing about them.
I also have a question about make and speed of the memory I should use in this system. It probably will not be clocked.

Samsung consistently earns really good marks in the SSD market. Intel historically has been, but I haven't heard anything from them in a while. Crucial's M500 series is also up there as is SanDisk's higher end models. If you want to take the easy route, buy a Samsung.

As far as memory, get something from either Corsair, Crucial, or G.Skill. The others I haven't hear much on and those three are usually recommended. As far as speed goes, doesn't improve performance except in a very small number of tasks (last I checked, WinRAR compression was about the only thing that likes faster RAM). Just stop at DDR3-1600 (or if it's not more expensive, DDR3-1866)

I already had 12GB of the ddr3 1600 corsair vengeance so just bought a 4th, several versions inbetween but so far seem to be playing nice. All timing and voltages are the same.
