Has anyone heard of Vipre Anti-Virus? If so, what is your opinion?

I've been reading up a little on it and am not to convinced from what I've seen (from other site reviews, such as PC Mag, which only gave it a 3.5/5 stars). I didn't see a review from MaxPC, but I'm not very convinced on the reliability of this product from what I've read so far.

Opinions?

I have been using Avast and have no problems with it. I also installed it on my friends pcs in his store and all is well there too.

Normally I would opt for something else. problem is that we are turning our IT responsibility over to a company that specializes in providing IT solutions to businesses since I am being promoted to elsewhere in the company. Normally, I wouldn't care except for I don't know anything about this Vipre Anti-virus and we are trying to move to a "managed" system and the only solution this company has to offer includes this AV program. If it's the one that I think it is, I don't care much for it. I like the idea of a managed computer system for troubleshooting (since I have even less time now to deal with IT issues as I've been doing other non-IT tasks).

This company has worked with us from when we went to a client-server network (about 10 years ago) so they are a trusted company--I just don't like the fact that in order to get a managed system through them, I have to use the Vipre AV system. We currently used TrendMicro and am reasonably satisfied with it (although I would rather have had ESET myself).

Long story short, either I need to find another managed system that lets me choose my own AV program, or find some other way to handle this. Our network is getting to the size that it's difficult to manage without using some piece of network software to handle it all (we have about 30-35 PCs on the network now, along with a dozen other devices--printers, scanners, etc).

I guess I'll do a little more research to see if this is in fact the Vipre anti-virus program I've been reading iffy reviews on before I make a final decision... The other portion of the managed system I'm not worried about.

Here are a couple of sites used for rating anti-virus programs:

http://www.top10antivirussoftware.com/i ... OgodPgkA6A

As you can see in the next site rating it is rated top in its class:

http://www.pcantivirusreviews.com/Compa ... OgodRyUAUw

It does a pre-install scan, so it takes a while to install according to the review of it on this site.

I have never used it so I can't give a comment on it.

I have never used Vipre so can't help you with that. I am currently using AVG http://free.avg.com with Immunet http://www.immunet.com.

I used VIPRE for a few years, when it was made by Sunbelt. A company called ThreatTrack owns it now, so experiences may differ.

I found its interface relatively easy to use (you do have to understand the basics of networking to do advanced configuration of the firewall). However, it caused certain programs (GIMP image editor, Stardock and a few others I'm forgetting) to slow down impossibly. It also occasionally caused large web pages to fail to load properly. And I had some problems updating it; once it forgot how to update its virus database, something it is supposed to do automatically, and by the time support was done with me I had to remove and reload the program. Ultimately, I fired it and picked another solution.
