Please forgive my lack of knowledge about SSD's but I am wondering about WHEN to use trim and/or how often is it necessary. The latest PC I built myself I bought this drive "OCZ Vertex 3 Series - MAX IOPS Edition VTX3MI-25SAT3-120G 2.5" 120GB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive" for my boot drive..I know, I know small but A got a good price on Newegg. I am a bit confused about the allocation?? apparently of files or how they are stored. While searching for a specific file, I found what appeared to be layer upon layer of identical Folder/File structures within ..itself?? Will the trim command clean this up in Windows 7??? I know I do NOT use defrag on an SSD but is the trim command ..similar or does it just clear un necessary memory blocks?
As an alternative should I just forget it and get a larger SSD as prices seem to be continually dropping and then deal with either cloning or re-installing Win7 and probably re-registering with Microsoft?
