Dell 600m laptop Model PP05L
Windows 7 Home Premium
Connects to my internet provider with unidentified network. But I get no internet access. I've tried getting it to change to Home network as that is how my netbook is connected, but it isn't cooperating. It does see my internet providers connection just won't connect as Home network.
I open the Network and Sharing Center and try everything that I can think of but without success.
So I'm open to suggestions. I've obviously missed something.

It's probably misconfigured as a public network and for whatever reason Windows 7 says "nope, not connecting" to an unidentified public network. Try this solution

I just tried that.
Opened the MMC console, selected Add/Remove Snap-in and there is no Group Policy Object in the list.
Another idea?

I would try uninstalling the wireless card via the device manager...reboot...and let the computer install the card and see if that helps.

Also, if you have any protection running (like passwords) turn all that off and see if that changes anything. You want the computer to have the easiest time connecting. If it works, then start adding back protective measures.

If not, I'm wondering if the card has gone bad.

Hope this helps.

Tried uninstalling, etc. Still the same.
The Dell does connect with my service provider. It connects as Unidentified Network. Since it does connect, I don't think the card is bad. I could be wrong, though.

I'm a little confused. You say it connects to your ISP as Unidentified Network. You're connecting to your home router via WI-Fi? Have you tried a wired connection? Have you tried updating your router's firmware? Have you tried ipconfig to see if the laptop is getting assigned an IP address from the router? Have you tried pinging the default gateway or an outside web address by URL and by IP address?

I would try a wired connection first if possible as this might help determine if the problem is more on the router side or on the laptop side.

It seems to me like a setting problem.

Well, here was the solution.
There was a power outage sometime last night as evidenced by the flashing lights on just about everything. Power up the Dell this morning to try some more things and it connected and has internet access.
I didn't think power cycling the router would be the solution since my netbook was accessing the internet the whole time.
Live and learn I guess. This should always be the first step no matter what: power cycle the router.
Thanks for all the suggestions and links.

Thanks for closing out the thread with a solution and the reminder.
