hi hope i'm in right forum they seem to have changed since I last posted
Anyway i'm using win 7 home 64 bit and since I have iphones I use iTunes and have several thousand songs on hd.
I have iTunes set as default player but for some reason media center copies my downloads and rips to its own folder
which I have no use for and its taking up space on my ssd. I don't need same file to go to both programs.
Is there any way to stop media center from making its own copies of music files even when I download from iTunes it still makes its own copy
I don't use media center for anything so uninstall is option however when I try to delete a song from media center it threatens to remove it from harddrive completely.

sorry for running on but if anyone has a fix would love to know what it is.
steve

ps used to post in "media madhouse" forum don't see it anymore

are you sure its an actual copy?
media center will look for files to add to its library in the same folder where itunes saves music too.
it could just be finding the files you downloaded and adding them so they are also playable in media center.
if you do a search for the name of a specific mp3 that shows in itunes and media center, does it show 2 copies of the file in one location or multiple locations or just the one file?
also, what originally alerted you to the duplicate issue? was there any kind of dialog box that came up or disk space shrinking going on or just them showing up when you opened media center?

thanks for answer
I noticed the duplicates when I opened media center and saw all the music even though I don't use media center also it doesn't copy everything I download it only has about half of my iTunes library in its library I tried manually deleting songs and they are still available in iTunes and they seem to find there way back to media center anyway.
is there a way to set media center preferences to stop this or even delete media center all together since don't use.
thanks
steve
using win 7 home 64
and several software dvd and cd palyers as well as nero suite 10 for copying

I checked like you said and there is only 1 copy of songs there is no mp3 version for media player just mpeg-4 in iTunes folder so its not really doubling up space on my
ssd drive

if you want to stop media center from auto adding the music you need to tell media center to stop looking in the folders.
to do this, open media center and go to settings.
from settings, choose "media libraries". select "music" and hit next.
on the next screen, select "remove folders from library" and then hit next.
uncheck any folders that show up, and then hit next
select "yes, use these location" and then finish
when its done, you should no longer have the music showing up in media center

hope this helps,
Another guy named Steve :)
