Redoing my old Asus M4A79 Deluxe which used to have an AMD A3 chip in it. Need to know if it will fit an AMD A3+ chip.

AM3 boards are typically compatible up to the FX series.

Yes, but it ain't the specs page you look at...it is the CPU support page.

Be sure to upgrade to the latest BIOS revision BEFORE swapping CPUs. But like the oldwizkid says, no FX for you.

Not worried about FX series. Worried if an A3+ chip will fit the A3 board.

Your motherboard supports:
  • Sempron
  • Sempron 100
  • Athlon X2/X3
  • Athlon II X2/X3/X4
  • Phenom X3/X4
  • Phenom II X2/X3/X4/X6

FX is the only AM3+ chip.

Actually, since we're here, I'll take any suggestions on a chip for this board. Just the best bang for the buck kind of chip.

Phenom II X6 1060T or Phenom II X4 970 BE. Should be at most $150

Yes, the upgrade on the Bios may need to take the new CPU.

If the board can see the new CPU directly, I would suggest not to temper the Bios upgrade.

Hope this helps.

Forgot to ask......I'm not gonna have any problem with the slower, DDR2 memory and, let's say, a Phenom II 965 3.4ghz chip?
