I'm currently using a new Windows 8 Asus touch screen laptop, and I'm wondering how do I stop the computer from opening separate windows, similar to that of a tablet.

I want this computer to be more like Windows 7, like I should be able to minimize Chrome and be able to maximize other programs instead of "swiping" them off to the side. It's useless, slow and I didn't buy a laptop to use it like a tablet.

Laptop implies it has a keyboard and trackpad.

So use them.

Nononononono.
No.
This is a help forum I thought?
Isn't there anyways I can replicate Windows 7 to any degree, or is that classic shell the only option I have.

Windows 8 in Desktop Mode with a Start Menu add-on behaves pretty much like Windows 7. Without a Start Menu add-on... it still behaves like Windows 7.

And the point I was making was exactly that: stop using the touch screen. And since you're saying you have a laptop, I'm assuming you have a computer with a hard keyboard and pointer device like a track pad. So use them.

If you don't have a hard keyboard and trackpad... then you bought a tablet PC, not a laptop.

It's a LAPTOP not a tablet PC.

Okay. So it has a keyboard and trackpad. You should be using those instead of the touchscreen to interact with the UI.

I know. But I don't think you understand what I am asking. Heh, it's hard to explain.

You know how when in the START menu you have those tiles? I click on chrome it opens a SEPARATE screen. Not something I can minimize. Only if I click in the upper left hand corner does it bring me back to the start menu.

I WANT to be able to minimize a program like chrome, then jump into Word without having the move through separate screens or going between the start menu.

If ya get what I'm sayin.
