Your friend, neighbor, parents, whoever has a botched Windows 8 OS and you need to do a fresh install. Without calling HP,DELL or Toshiba, how do you get an .iso.

They key is burned onto their systemboard so it is not illegial to have the media....but I can't seem to find one any place.

Would a system builder DVD work?
Again I would not use the key if I bought it, this woulld be under the assumption that when you put the media in they licence would be reconized by the board the key is burned to.

If this is a OEM build (Dell, HP, etc.), these computers come with a recovery image that you're supposed to refresh from. Otherwise, Windows 8 has a handy dandy "nuke 'em all" feature. If you pull up the top right charm and go to Settings -> Change PC Settings -> General, you'll find the options to refresh Windows 8.

Contact the OEM and give them the laptop's serial number. They might the key for it.

If you have a Win8 DVD (upgrade, retail or if OEM same bit) and it will clean install (destructive; I;m guessing this since you are partitioning, formatting and installing on a new boot drive) or repair install as you wish. If the former, use the product key on the outside of the laptop case. It has to be there per MS EULA agreement. Check inside the battery compartment.

An alternative is to buy a recovery DVD from the laptop maker: usually $5-15 online.

Thank you. Still not as good as a Digital River deposit--keep up the pressure IT guys while they still have an OS to peddle--but better than a sharp stick in an eye.
