I then updated the firmware and zeroed out the drive (that took almost 27 hours with DBAN). No change.
I should also note that the worst temperature difference from 100 was 64 degrees Fahrenheit, which means that at one point in the drive's life it got up to 164 F. I guess this could cause the End-to-End error, since it supposedly is a problem with the drive's cache and processor.
I first noticed the issue when I tried to clone the host OS drive with Clonezilla, and it failed due to bad sectors. viewtopic.php?f=35&t=241244
