As I suspect you know that lock is built into the ATA drive's firmware (not the drive proper) and may not be possible to remove. Installing or updating the firmware does not remove the password. Since you don't want to access the data you maybe able to wipe the entire drive resetting the password to nothing if the app will wipe the firmware registers as well.
If the password is on the HPA it may be easier to do particularly if you have an identical
accessible drive to copy that HPA to overwrite the locked drive.
I would try Secure Erase
(read documentation) and if that didn't work HDAT2
