Summer is fast approaching and along with it higher temperatures.

I finally bit the bullet and bought a water cooling unit for my CPU.

Before the upgrade my Q6600 was getting:

At Idle - 44, 52, 46, 43 C
Playing Far Cry 3 Maxed - 75, 72, 68, 68 C

After the upgrade I'm getting:

At Idle - 38, 33, 28, 30 C
Playing Far Cry 3 Maxed - 48, 43, 39, 40 C :D

My gaming temps are better than my previous idle temps.

Best $60 I've spent in a while.

Now to see how high I can overclock.

Behind the curve ball once again and playing catch up, Satch?
I've been water cooling my systems for the last 5-6 years. I LOVE the quiet.
I don't overclock all that much. I've got my 2600K running at 4ghz. No voltage tweaks, no bleeding edge, etc. Just a nice little boost.
I started doing the water cooling 'thing' when I was still folding and had an at-the-time pretty big oc on the Q6600 and nvidia graphics cards. FAH put a strain on everything with the clocks I was running.
Don't remember exactly what I had the cpu at but it was north of 4ghz. The gpu setting was cranked up to where the cards started to show artifacts and then dropped the set point a couple of notches and let it go.
That machine was loud. Then I added water. WOW, what a difference. Cooler temps and quiet. I could hear the dvd and hard drives spin up on start up again.

However I'd like to argue that CPU fan noise is rarely the source of the majority of case noise. It's usually your video card (when it's running) or your case fans. For my setup, my case fans overpower the CPU fan noise.

My noise was mostly from the video cards. I was gpu folding and had overclocked them. So, yeah, the fans for the coolers were making a racket.
I figured that if I was going to water cool the video cards to cut down on noise and temps, I would just go ahead and add in the cpu also.
The fans I put on the radiator were thermostatically controlled. The warmer the air coming out, the faster the fans would run. The cooler, the slower. That way I wouldn't have to mess around with a fan controller.

Yeah I've never been an early adopter. Not that I don't want the cool new stuff. It's that I don't always need to get it right away or it's too expensive at first.

So far the unit has been on the low side for noise.

So I got a little too aggressive overclocking that Q6600 and I damaged something. It powers on but no signal is getting to my monitor. I've tried resetting the BIOS and even switched video cards but nothing worked.

So of course I just had to upgrade.

So I bought an AMD 8350 and put that water cooler on that.

At idle I'm getting an unheard of for me 17C!!!

Running Prime95 it just gets over 50C.

Just FYI, the sensor readings for AMD chips are a bit different. TMPIN0 is a solid indicator of your core temp, if I recall. The individual core readings will be pretty inaccurate.

According to HwMonitor my TMPIN0 temperatures reported a constant 32C whether at idle or under full load.

But the temps listed under the CPU section reported 10C at idle and 43C under full load. (Ambient temps were a chilly 20C so I got even lower that the previous 17C at idle)

Using CoreTemp reports the same numbers as the CPU section.

That's the package temperature, it's not the actual CPU temperature.

It is the CPU temperature it's for the whole CPU and not for each individual core.
