I recently started getting a "Software download complete" grey message box in the lower right corner of my screen asking to "install now" or "install later" for unknown software. Does anyone know what this might be - I keep clicking later???

A screen shot of what the thing looks like would be useful.

I'm not sure I'd be happy with any "download" that kept insisting "install me!" assuming you have rebooted your system at least once since this began.

It didn't pop up for a day or 2 but it's back again - Here is a look at it.

Sorry I couldn't get a file to attach so I posted a link= -

My guess it's probably malware. I'd run a scan using Malwarebyte's Antimalware and HiJackThis!

MalewareBytes found nothing & HiJackThis says I don't have an internet connection to anaylaze anything - and honestly the interface is above my head & I can't figure it out!!

If you didn't initiate a download, then it is most likely Malware. If it hasn't been installed, then it would be hard to detect as most scanners look for stuff that has been installed already. If it hasn't been installed, then most likely it is in the temp files. You can clean that by using www,CCleaner.com. You can also do it manually by clicking start then typing %temp% in the box and that will bring up your temp files.

Well - It's still coming up - I've run Windows SE, MalewareBytes, HiJackThis, Spybot sd & ccleaner.

I'm out of ideas!!!

Or Microsoft.

Seriously, next time it pops up open the task manager and see if you can find the app running that produced it. Also look at your startup folder for updaters.

Actually the easiest way of doing this is to load Autoruns and Process Explorer and have them standing by.

I never saw a popup from Microsoft like that...ever! Don't click on load! If this is win 7 go to start and in the little search window type: msconfig ,then click on the search result to open it. Look for an application that you didn't load in the "Start tab" and un-check it,apply and close the app, restart the computer. Did it show up again?

So I ran MSConfig again - I think I recognized everything but I thought I would disable the newest item UA.EXE from my new Samsung Galaxy S4 installation. & rebooted - it's more then a day & I havn;t seen it yet - keeping my fingers crossed. If it is I think I need to contact Samsung to put some more info in their update popup.

Did you by chance install the Kies or KiesAir program for your four SG4? That box looks a lot like that program.

I was getting the same box in the right hand corner - see picture posted by JASPhoto.com/test that was listed previously. It was the same as that, and it would get in the way of some programs I was using even though it was really small. I had also tried deleting a few questionable applications in Task Manager but could not really tell what they were for so soon stopped, and the box persisted. I finally went to Add and Remove programs and removed all the Samsung programs, as I saw that someone mentioned that and I had also suspected that was what was causing the box. Fortunately, that did the trick and the box is now gone. I also removed Motorola programs, but think it disappeared after the Samsung. I did not notice right away as I had so many screens open. I did not have to restart the computer. If this hadn't worked, I was going to do a System Restore. I hope you have luck with this too.

Figured it out - ended up being the Verizon update software that came with my Samsung Galaxy S3 which I had installed on my PC. Figures...Verizon and their malware/bloatware digging into our lives without asking!
