I could use some help getting a surge protector, I am currently using something like this (same brand and looks close to the same)
http://www.acehardware.com/product/inde ... 23.1259255

This one is on sale for $31.99 at Target
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... alParent=1

look like a good one? I know little about power stuff and would appreciate the help.

I will be running these on it.
PS3
XBOX 360
Wii U
23" Samsung (Adding 2 More latter possibly)
2.1 Sound System

And my PC
i7 3930K
3X GTX 580 3GB SLI
ASUS R4E
24GB DDR3 6x4GB
Corsair H100
8 120mm Fans
2 Light Bars
8 USB Accesories
1TB 5400 RPM
4TB Seagate DX 7200RPM
128GB OCZ Vertex 4
1200W Raidmax GOLD Certified PSU

Sound like it would be a good power surge protector? It's the PC I care about the most. Let me know if this one is good.

Thanks! :)

Avoid Monster like the plague. They're grossly overpriced.

Case in point? $25 3" micro USB to USB cables are sold near the check-out lines at Fry's. What the flipping hell.

OK... I'm not getting your point. So should I get this Monster Cable? Normally $50 on sale for $32. Seems pretty good. I don't understand why people hate Monster, sure they cost more, but from other Monster products I've bought I've found you normally get what you pay for. So stick with my cheap ACE power protector or get this one? Is the Monster one better than the one I currently have?

I also forgot to mention I'd be getting it free (kind of a big detail to leave out...).

I also want you to know that I'm not trying to argue, if It's better then my current one I'll grab it, if not, I'll spend my free credit on something else and look for a different surge protector.

Monster Cable is a terrible company for three reasons
  • They overcharge for everything and try to hide it with marketing fluff.
    • On the note about the USB cable, they were advertising that it could supply "1.2A" of charge for faster charging and stuff. Uh. That current is dependent on the USB Host and if it's willing to supply that much, not the cable (and this cable was thicker than an iPad cable, which easily drinks 2A, so no, no electrical magic there).
    • They sell HDMI cables for $30 or so when you can get the same length for $10. As far as I know, an HDMI cable is a passive cable not unlike Thunderbolt. Therefore, you can solder a bunch of wires between two HDMI connector and get a similar result.

Also since it's digital information, as long as you're within the length limit and have proper shielding, you can throw in all the gold connectors and "oxygen free" copper you want in the cable, it isn't going to make the quality any better.
  • They've held misleading marketing campaigns (http://www.engadget.com/2008/04/21/in-s ... posite-ca/)
  • They're grossly protective of their brand name, suing everything that had the word "Monster" in it, from Pixar (for Monsters Inc.) to a golf cart supplier.

Get something from Belkin. Like this http://www.belkin.com/us/BSQ1200-06-Bel ... 0A39457DC6 Because it has more protection, more outlets (including USB outlets), and costs less than the one you picked.

OK! I'll skip them then, could you please help me out a little more and find the best Surge protector on ACE's webpage? I'd do it but know little about power stuff.

I want it off of ACE because I can just use a charge account and not pay for it now.
Thanks for your help! :)

If you can find the joules rating, you should go find something based on that.

These are the Surge protectors.

Any of them I'd get (cost wise) just not sure which one, and if any are very good.

A surge protector is a surge protector. Again, just look for whatever has the highest joules rating.

OK! Can you give me your opinion on which one of these is best? They are the most expensive ACE has, and would these be decent enough?

http://www.acehardware.com/product/inde ... Id=3012878

http://www.acehardware.com/product/inde ... Id=1297884

They have the same joules rating I think, 3500.

Oh wait, the WOOD has 3000 and the Fist Alert 3500. So then the First alert would be best then right?

Just want to be sure I grab the right one, I don't mean to be annoying by constantly asking questions. Sorry if I am.
