I had wanted to hook up my printer to my router so I can share it across the wifi. Well, the printer is an old all-in-one. I also like the idea of making a file server. Can I do it:

[1] cheaply; <$150 or the price of a new laserjet all in one
[2] power-efficient; don't want to add too much to the power bill
[3] small form factor

The cheapest way as of now would be to turn my old P4 with a mITX psu into such a server. But I hear the P4 procs use more power and generate more heat.

Dumpster dive, Craig's list, Good Will, Raspberry Pi.

Probably should get a Pi, they're nice tinkering toys. Here's a dandy thread on it too.

Thought about the pi. I read it is slow at printing, although the new 512mb models are faster than the 1st one. Do you know anything about that?

Well, I haven't had any issues with the 512MB one, if that's what you're wondering.
