Hello,

I am looking at a computer with a A8N-SLI-Deluxe motherboard. It POSTs but will not boot. Says there is no boot dive. There are 4 SATA drives in the computer, one 150G Velociraptor with the OS, two 250G WD drives and one optical drive. There is also a floppy A drive (yikes!).The BIOS shows no drives except the A drive. I transplanted a known good drive in (with all others drives disconnected) and get the same result. I put the Velociraptor in another computer and it boots no problem. I tried pulling the BOIS battery and that had no effect, expect to reset all the setting to default.

Additional info. In the RAID configuration it says there are two few drives to create a RAID, that is with all the drives plugged in.

Is it dead?

Thanks

I would not say it is completely dead--just the onboard SATA controller and its SATA ports. You could always try using an add-on SATA controller card to bypass the issue, if you are so inclined.

Hmm, that is an idea I had not considered. Thanks, I'll give that a try.

Don't order anything until you look at the electrolytic caps! If any are split, leaking or bent way over like in the pictures below, the board is dead.

yes, I was able to swap drives with a known good computer. The drive spins up and I did use a different cable and I tried all the SATA ports on the board.

If the drive is read and you see data on it in another computer I would have to agree with Pcstudent and say the controller is dead.
