Has anyone had the free version of Avast show Windows Media Player 11 update (through Windows Update on an XP Mode virtual machine) as a virus/torjan?

I was trying to create a baseline XP Mode virtual machine that was fully updated and while doing the updates, Avast said that the Windows Media player update (version 11) was a trojan/virus. I'm running the updates throug the Windows Update system in XP Mode and my host machine has AV and is clear of viruses, I've doubled checked that to make sure.

It's probably a false positive if you're certain the update came from a trusted source

I'm pretty sure it did. I was using Windows Update. I may try a different AV app, just because I know with VMs it can be tricky because of how the hoest ties into the VM and some AV apps don't play too well while within a VM. I would use MSE but am Not terribly convinced of its scanning and detection abilities compared to some of the others. I may try ESET, though, which I Have used in the past on bare-metal desktops (not VMs).

:) Im pretty sure its a false positive if the update was coming from windows update. i recommend you download and scan with Super anti-spyware and Emsisoft Anti-malware. These programs scan for trojans make sure to update them and run a full scan both are XP compatible.
