I need your help. I just installed a 1TB hd. I would like to shrink the volume and add two partions on it so that I will have drives C, D, and E. One for the OS one for hobby files and one for music files. My problem is when I used defraggler and perfect disk free versions they would not move the MFT. So now I cant get windows to shrink my hd down very much. What program can I buy that will move the MFT files out of the middle and end of the hd so I can partion all that free space? Im not a pro when it comes to computers so simple is best when giving suggestions on this stuff.

Thanks,
Jack

I havent tried any paid software yet. That is what I am looking for, a program that will move the MFT to allow me access to shrink the hd.

Will gparted move the MFT? So say I want to make the first 100gb of my 1 Tb for my OS and applications will gparted move the MFT to that area. So far I have used defraggler and perfect disk and both left files in the middle and very end of the HD.

The MFT is stored in the Boot Record for the drive, that should be located at the very beginning of the drive anyway, so you should not have to move it. Moving it would be a bad idea, and you risk corrupting everything on the drive.

::EDIT::

You should have defragged the drive before attempting any drive resizing, did you do that?

I defragged a few times but the results state there are several system excluded files that perfect disk could not move. There are some in the middle of the drive and a few at the end. One of the files at the end says it is an MFT, has a yellow block. The Purple files are at front of the drive and says they are Boot. I just want to move the MFT from the very end to the end of a 50 gb space so my shrink volume will allow me to partition. Partitioning now only gets me 360 gb out of 1 tb.

Uhm, havent used that one yet. But considering it is windows it will probably not move the files either. But I can give it a go I guess.
