I left a message where as I bought an HP laptop computer at Best Buy with Windows 8. I have tried to do everything I could to like Windows 8 and I just don't like. So I went back into Best Buy to buy Windows 7 Professional. I told one of the techs what I was planning to do and he said it can't be done!
Of course I didn't believe him and he got one of the other techs and two more came over and both said the same thing. I asked them why and they didn't know.
So could I please get some help? I still don't believe them.
I am 60 years old under total disability and just need some help!!
Thank You!!

You are most likely correct--they are full of shit in telling you that you can't install Windows 7 on your newly purchased laptop computer. If you can provide us with the exact make and model of the laptop, we can try to find the proper drivers for the hardware involved. As for purchasing Windows 7 Professsional, get an OEM version from NewEgg: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6832116992

I'm sorry! It was a Toshiba instead of an HP!!! It is a Toshiba - Satellite 15.6" Laptop - 8GB Memory - 750GB Model: P855-S5102. I can't seem to figure out why Best Buy keeps saying I can't put Windows 7 Prof on this machine instead of Windows 8 unless they are thinking I was talking about upgrading which I wasn't. Any help you or anyone else can give me, I would really appreciate it.
Thanks so much!!!!

I believe their biggest reason for telling you that it is not possible to "downgrade" the OS from Windows 8 to Windows 7 is this: According to the detailed specs for this machine, it has USB 3.0 ports on it. As far as I can tell, Toshiba doesn't supply any downloadable drivers for these USB 3.0 ports for Windows 7, but Windows 8 has native support for USB 3.0. In other words, your USB ports will be useless unless you keep Windows 8 on the laptop as the OS. Also, they provide no chipset drivers for the motherboard in Windows 7 at all, so you might be left without any drivers at all for many of your devices if you install Windows 7 as the new OS on this laptop. Be careful!

The driver model really hasn't changed much between Windows 7 and Windows 8 at all. Also note that since this is an IvyBridge based laptop the USB 3.0 ports are directly driven from the chipset which does have drivers under Windows 7. In all likelihood the op should be able to install Windows 7 and use his laptop without issue and Windows 7 should be able to find drivers for his laptop devices just fine, failing that he can probably just use the Windows 8 drivers if he really has to.
