Hi! I have a ASUS Rampage IV Extreme Motherboard and was thinking I might update its Bios. Thing is I have never updated Bios before, I have some ASUS thing called AI Suite I think, and there's a bios update option that contains the options to update bios from internet, update bios from file, download bios from internet and save bios to file. Also my motherboard has dual bios, how can I fix one of the bios if it goes wrong? I'd appreciate some help! :) Thanks!

Here I would want Bios 3404 right? Some of them say I need to install the Bios converter before I update. Do I need to do that with 3404? Also I have never updated anything from what it came with or was on the motherboard driver CD. I want to update everything, can you tell me what files I would want from each category? Bios, Bios utilities, Chipset, Audio, etc. In some it looks like I have multiple choices and I want to be sure I get them right. Thanks! :)

I have the Rampage IV Formula board and it was fairly easy to upgrade the BIOS, just down load it to the USB stick, place the stick in the White USB (ROG) slot. Because you are still running a ROM based BIOS you will have to get the converter so you can run the new CAP BIOS file.

Here is a tutorial from Asus on how to flash their boards.

*sigh*

In a dual BIOS motherboard system, one of the BIOSes is read only ROM with no way of updating it. The reason for this is if you corrupt the one actually in use, the second BIOS is copied over and you don't brick your motherboard.

It may also either update one, switch to using that, and if you update again, updates the other automatically for you and switches to that if it doesn't use the above method.

Either way, you have no control over the second BIOS.

I am almost Positive I have a switch by my Bios Chips that switches them. If it not for that then... what does it do? I switched it once... Either on my Current Rampage IV Extreme or my old Rampage III Extreme. Why did I use the switch... Just came back to me! I had an issue with my computer starting for about 1 second then powering off, thought it might be BIOS, fixed it by hitting the power reset... odd. So that was my III. Either way is there a switch by them? I am sorry if I don't seem to know much... I build computers, but have NEVER updated BIOS. Thank you for all your help! :)

Have you ever heard of the phrase "Read the freaking manual"? If you could do that, that would be great.

:?: A manual? Why would I bother reading that?!?!? :P

I was gonna update my Chipset drivers, are all these the same? Is there just one I need to download? Or a couple?

Oh and same on SATA, also one of the Audio drivers says "Realtek High Definition Audio Driver" and the others "Realtek Audio Driver", all the same? And... I am looking at updating my BIO's. some say I need to convert to .CAP others don't say. The newest version doesn't say. Do I still need to convert?

Thanks! :D

Oh Latios.....you beat me to the punch!!!!

All of the time it took him to post all these replies he could have read all about the flash procedure from the little Mexican Man that comes with every single motherboard on the market today. He is great, very informative and his name is MAN-U-AL.

Do yourself a favor OP, go buy an Apple computer next time. Any time you have a problem, take it to an Apple store and the Geniuses there will be more than happy to help.
