Value for money laptop PC
=======================

Hi

Good day folks

My current laptop is getting old

i need to use MS office , browser, basic text editing ( like Note tab or Note pad ) a password manager and some other Windows only programs , so need to buy a Laptop PC (No gaming)

I am looking for a decent value for money LAPTOP PC with at least 500 GB of HDD , 15+/- inches screen and other relevant specs

I do NOT need MAX computing power or the latest gadget, but need something in the MID range . It should be trouble free. **I am flexible about everything else . **

It could be any decent make , any model , any processor , win 8 or win 7 and so on ( meaning please feel free to choose the best combinations )

I have an office laptop PC and an iPhone , so will probably use this laptop PC for a max of two hours a day ( as second , NON office PC )

What make / model could you suggest ?

Please suggest two or three alternate make / models so that I can check local availability etc and buy

Thanks in advance
And best regards

Subu

I do not have a budget per se

However I am NOT planning a " break the bank " purchase

I need a good build quality , mid range PC to do what I set to do .... MS office including large spread sheets, a lot of browsing, e mailing ( web mail including attachments ) , file management ( or storing and retrieving files ) , printing ( ppt , word files ) etc

As you will notice, these tasks are pretty basic

I have a smart phone and an ipad and this is a home PC meaning I do NOT plan to work on this for 9hours a day ....rather use 2 hours a day max and some extra time on weekends

The catch is MS office, file management etc and since the web based MS office tools do not seem to work well I am stuck with buying a PC

So please feel free to suggest
========================

Do I need i5 ? Or is that an overkill ?

Are there good AMD chips ?

Windows 7 or windows 8

Windows 7 home basic or premium

What graphics cards ?

What memory and with which OS ?

Please feel free to suggest .....

TIA
regards

Well, if you're really strapped for cash, any basic laptop will cover those because all of those are light tasks. If you want something a bit more fancy, anything above an Ultrabook is what I'd consider overkill.

May be an open budget didn't help in the discussion

What would be best value for money for a budget of $ 500 ?

TIA

There's a reason why we ask for a budget: there's a "best of value for the money" for varying budgets.

But yeah, that's basic laptop category. This Lenovo G580 is up there, but I dunno.
