Hello guys,
My friend and I just built a new PC, and installed windows 7. Everything is going smoothly, until we installed AMD catalyst and graphic drivers and reboot the computer. the computer will reboot itself during start up. sometime it doesn't get pass the welcome screen, other times within few seconds after the welcome screen. The computer works perfectly fine in safe mode.
Here is few things we tried:
-upgrading Motherboard's BIOS
-cleaning drivers and reinstall drviers
-older version of drivers
-reinstall windows
-trying both ram sticks 1 at a time
-attempt to exchange graphic card. the tech stressed test the card on their system and it was fine

I am completely stumped. What could be the problem? any help would be appreciated.

Here is the spec:
AMD FX 8320
Gigabyte GA-970A-D3
Corsair Vengence LP DDR3 1600MHz 2x 2GB
Corsair VX550 550W PSU
Windows 7 Pro x64
XFX Radeon HD 7850 2GB core edition

Sounds a lot like a bad driver, what version of the driver are you using? Did you get it from AMD's site? Do you have the latest chipset drivers installed? Is your A/V software turned off before installing the drivers, and then off again upon the reboot?

we are downloading the latest driver from AMD's site and tried the driver came with the DVD. thou we might not have tried the chipset driver before graphic cards. We will try that tomorrow. also, we don't have anti-virus yet, it's a fresh install. thanks for the reply, keep them coming. :D

I will update once we attempted chipset driver.

tried chipset driver, and it still fails.

according to my friend, it shut itself off during windows update.

UPDATE: we have tested it with a 9800GT and it works. the 9800GT we used doesn't require 6pin PCI-E connector. any ideas what this means?
