Hi! Think I posted this in the right place. I have a i7 3930K so there's 6 cores. Core Temp lists it as 0 to 5. My problem is core 0 through core 5 (or 1 and 6) are about 5-10C difference at times with and average of 7C difference. So I am guessing it needs new thermal. But my problem is how should I apply thermal on it? I am using Antec Formula 7 Nano Diamond Compound. I heard it should be spread all over it and I also heard just a vertical line strait down the middle. I am using a Corsair H100 cooler. Can I just remove my heat sink and leave the radiator in? I don't think I could get the Radiator out without removing the motherboard and id rather not get that technical right now. Also my temps on average idling are 26C for core 0 (or 1) and 34C for core 5 (or 6) so I believe those are rather good temps still I would just like to have it all in the mid twenties. Also I bought a M11x R3 off of EBAY about a week ago and it keeps hitting 80C which is the throttleback temperature and it affects some of my games. Like Borderlands seems to play fine on max while Need For Speed Most Wanted (2012) on max runs fine for like 5-10 minutes before hitting the throttleback temperature and getting a major performance hit. I already cleaned it out and replaced the thermal with Antec Formula 7 Nano Diamond Compound on both the CPU and GPU. I spent $600 on my M11x which may not sound like much to you if you've got a regular job, but I am just 15 and making cash to buy high end computers isn't easy. And I don't want to be dishonest and re-sell it on EBAY to some guy saying its absolutely perfect. So I could really use some help cooling it! :) So Desktop thermal and laptop cooling! Thanks!

BTW I am using a cooling pad on my M11x so the vent isn't blocked.

Hotter cores than others are normal. Work is being done on those cores because work can be finished in time on those cores, with the others more or less idle.

Also we went over this on your laptop: it's a wimpy GPU, stop trying to push it.

They all have roughly the same usage, 0-2%. Still sound normal? They used to be a lot closer in temps before like 3-6C difference.
Also I understand that yeah the M11x doesn't have the greatest GPU or CPU but they should be able to keep themselves cool enough. And yeah putting good cooling in an 11" laptop isn't easy, but for the price Alienware charges I expect my components to stay cool enough to run right. It would be different if it ran slow from the beginning, that would most likely mean I am pushing it to hard. But it runs perfectly fine for 5-10 minutes on almost max. I lowered the NFS MW settings to medium and it ran fine for 15-20 minutes. And played L4D2 for about an hour on max with 16x AF and 4x AA without a single frame rate drop. Some games don't seem to get it while others are fine for a short while before slowing down. If I was pushing it to hard it I would expect it to run slow from the start. And EVERY time it slows down is when the CPU or GPU hits 80C. Seems more than a coincidence. Well let me know if you have any suggestions! Thanks! :)

Another question. Is it OK for a Desktop GTX 580 (never overclocked) to hit 80C when gaming? I am guessing its totally fine. Also its fan speed is only at 60% so I am sure if it needed more cooling it would increase the fan speed. Just thought I'd ask! :)

BTW if I remember right it's the CPU that's hitting 80C not the GPU.

In the above comment I am talking about my laptop, not my desktop.

Is it OK to have my 3930K running at about 60-67C on each core while rendering a UDK level that has all six cores at 100%? I am using a Corsair H100 and ANTEC Formula 7 Nano Diamond Thermal.

That's with UDK, 7.1 Surround Music, 5 internet pages, 3 videos loading, and the level processing in UDK running.
