This may not be the correct area on this forum for this question.

Problem: I have an external harddrive that I'm using to plug into my Samsung plasma tv and watching movies.
During the movies, I get a messages that tells me the "USB device has disconnected"

The only reason I can think of is that the tv is not putting out enough power through its usb port to keep the drive going. (works fine on my computer)

If this is the case.. would a powered usb hub be a solution? Ive never used a usb hub before... nor do I know how they work.
Would I be able to plug my harddrive into the hub and then the hub into my TV??

thanks for any solutions

It should work as a hub is a dumb device by nature. By dumb I mean it does nothing to the signal it just passes through.
