Hi:

Please excluded the naive questions. I am planning to use Acronis to make a vector by vector clone (deleted files, swap files, hibernation files, etc. and NOT just the accessible files) of an entire hard drive onto an external hard drive. Essentially, I will be making a clone of the entire existing hard drive and not just files. Is this the appropriate software to use?

I will be purchasing a new computer and then accessing (or reboot) the complete copy hard drive. Do I need to buy a computer with the current OS (Windows XP) that the cloned drive used or will a computer and up to date OS allow me to access the cloned hard drive without altering it? I am looking for step by step instructions on how to copy/clone the entire disk (including deleted files, freespace, swap, everything from top top bottom, etc.) but then be able to examine the hard drive at a forensic level at a later date without the current computer or original hard drive being around (it ill be melted). Please let me know if you need clarification on any thing. I thank you in advance for your help.
