Is there anywhere I can get firmware versions other than the most current one.for a Sony BDP-S185? Sony support only has the newest one and it's caused me nothing but problems since I updated to it. I would like to roll it back to an older version but have been unable to locate a site on the web. Anybody know where I can find what I need to get my player back to the way it was before I made the mistake of updating? I'm assuming it is possible to go back to an older version----I hope.

Hmmm, new firmware exists to solve problems, not create them. Something else is on play here but it sounds like you don't want to go that route. So let's take the easy one. It may still be on your system. Do this...

1. Open the Device Manager Control Panel
2. Browse to the device whose driver you want to roll back. Double-click the Sony BR player
3. On the properties screen, click the Driver tab, then click Roll Back Driver and follow the wizard to revert to the previously loaded driver.
4. A restart will be required.

If the option is grayed out, an older driver is not available. If you know that the driver has been updated, you may be able to recover it by using Windows' System Restore function, which will also undo driver installations.

I don't think that'll work, drivers != firmware.

Unless something has changed over at Sony, they have always transposed their lexicon. Their firmware is really a driver. Makes for a great piece of Happy Hour trivia.

I think you guys think I'm talking about a Bluray "drive". What I mean is a stand alone Sony Bluray "player". That's what I need the older firmware for. Is there any site that has older firmware versions that I could replace the current one with.

Now that's what I'm talking about! I'll go there and hopefully find what I need. If it works I'll report back here. Thanks!

That site, Blu-Ray.com looked promising but my model is not listed in the sony section. Any other places come to mind?

OK, I finally found an older version (M09.R.0042). After downloading and burning to a CD, I put it in the player. Upon loading I was informed that the player is already updated and gives no option to replace the newer version. So it looks like it's not possible to down grade the firmware once it's been updated. So I'm stuck with the Cinavia equipped firmware. Boo! Unless somebody knows of a way to get the player to accept an older firmware.
