Hi guys

A real noob here so please be gentle :-p I've been wanting to build a custom gaming rig for a while now but I need some help. Please could someone tell me if the below hardware will work together and whether or not it will be a decent enough rig to play most games on their highest settings? As follows:

Intel Core i5 3.3 GHz Processor - $226
Asus’s P8P67 - $122.10
Gigabyte GVN560OC-1GI Graphics card - 1 GB - GDDR5 SDRAM - $252
8GB CORSAIR VENGEANCE CL9 DDR3-1600 RAM - $50
WD Caviar Blue 1TB [WD10EZEX] 3.5" 7200rpm 64MB SATA3 - $65
CORSAIR ENTHUSIAST SERIES CMPSU-650TX - $110
RACTAL DESIGN CORE 3000 - $89
SAMSUNG SH-B123 12X BD-ROM DRIVE - $85

I've managed to nail this right on the $1000 mark. If anyone has any suggestions to make this a better system for the price then please let me know.

Cheers guys :-D

I would recommend this motherboard and processor for you a Core i5-3570K http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819116504 and a ASUS Z77 motherboard http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131823 since it sports latest Intel chipset and will be better than the P67 board you chose. Another change I would make would be to go with a Gigabyte 660 video card http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814125443rather than the 560Ti. The 660 is the same price as the 560Ti and performs better than it.

If it were my $1000, I'd actually only spend $940 and spec this system - which would punk yours.

3570k | $170
AsRock Pro4 with $40 MicroCenter bundle discount | $60
8GB Samsung MV-3V4G3D | $35
Gigabyte 7950 | $270
Barracuda 3TB | $90
Agility 4 256GB | $130
Seasonic X650 | $90
Samsung SH-222 | $15
True Spirit 120 | $30
Fractal Arc Midi | $50

$940

Grasshopper, simply keep your eyes open, ears tuned and know that newegg ain't the only source in town. To start the process, go visit all the hot deal boards at Anand's, [H], Tom's, OC.net, PCPer, nnn.

7950 @ $300 + $30 MIR = $270

To answer your question yes your above build will work, but you'll need to update the motherboard's Bios for your 3570K to be compatible with your P8P67 motherboard. Here is a link http://support.asus.com/Cpusupport/List.aspx?SLanguage=en&m=P8P67&p=1&s=39&hashedid=Qx3PdnZI9Pq9BcIU to ASUS's website for your motherboard's page here you can download the latest Bios for it. The Bios you will need to download is 3207, this will make your board compatible with Ivy bridge processors.

On a side note: All your other parts will work together as well, so you don't need to change anything if you don't want to.

Yeah the Z77 ASUS board will give you Intel's latest chip set and will give you a PCI express 3.0 channels too over the p67 board you selected earlier.

^ Agreed. But not the P8Z77-V LK, it's sata neutered. Get a board from Gigabyte or Asrock for less money but with the full accoutrement of I/O ports.

Here's another board that you might want to think about getting it's an ASrock Z77-Extreme6 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813157295.

Yes, I do like the Extreme6 and it's only $100 at MC with their $50 3570k + mobo combo discount.

I'm not sure how to help with the actual build, I'm just looking at recommendations already posted for myself, but I know a website to find the best prices.

www.pricewatch.com

I always use that site, typically always order from the same places that always have the lowest prices.

To save on shipping I'd try to order as much as you can from one place though. A few dollars here or there difference is probably not as much as the cost of shipping from a different place. Newegg has always been a good place that I've ordered from too but I'm sure that comes as no surprise to anyone.
