Hmm, doesn't appear to change anything. It might be a problem with vsftpd. Would proftp be a good recommendation?
As a client or a server? I personally use unix/linux built-in FTP server, and if it's windows I use Filezilla. Windows Server has FTP capabilities, but it uses dynamic port ranges which makes it difficult to do proper port forwarding.
Vsftpd and proftp only exist in linux based server form. I'm not aware of a "built in" linux server, as the Ubuntu server documentation prescribes the use of vsfptd (
https://help.ubuntu.com/11.10/servergui ... erver.html). Also, while I appreciate the knowledge on windows based ftp systems, I am running Ubuntu 11.10 so anything beyond that would be superfluous. When you say it uses dynamic port ranges, are you saying that Windows Server doesn't have the ability to define the passive port range?
