I bought an ASUS Zenbook Prime UX32VD over the summer, and I've been enjoying it. However, as it's targeted towards the business-person market, I (as an adolescent student who craves speed) is left unsatisfied with its slow (but spacey) 500GB 5,400RPM HDD. ASUS has tried to remedy the lack of speed with a 32GB Sandisk i100 SSD soldered onto the motherboard, it's purpose to cache the data on the 500GB primary HDD. However, ASUS has made it so that it's ONLY functionality is to cache, and it cannot be used as a conventional storage medium. As Black Friday and Cyber Monday approaches us, I'm looking to switch my primary storage device, and I'm planning to purchase a 256GB Samsung 830 Series SSD, which is faster than the Sandisk i100 that is currently on my motherboard. However, the i100 will continue to attempt to cache the FASTER Samsung SSD, which I'm worried will introduce some speed reducing (or possibly even compatibility) issues to my laptop. I asked a friend about this, who referred me over to this BIOS hack
to enable AHCI functionality on a motherboard. Obviously, my laptop's motherboard is not of the P5K model, so I was wondering: would the hacked BIOS in the link work, and if it wouldn't (which I'm expecting), is there any way to enable manual storage on the SSD? If so, how?
