I have Windows 7 Home Premium on an aging, but still very competent, machine. Specs are as follows:

i7 920 @ 3.8GHz
120GB OCZ Vertex 2 SSD (C:)
1TB Samsung Spinpoint
3TB Seagate Barracuda
12GB Corsair DDR3 1600MHz
Gigabyte EX-58 Extreme Mobo
1x Blu-Ray Player
1x DVD Player
Invidia GTX 295 GPU
2x 24" 1920x1080 Monitors

This computer is used for gaming, content streaming (server-style duties), video encoding, etc. So here's the question...is Windows 8 upgrade worth it? I know Windows 7 will never be getting another Service Pack, but I can't really see any other reason to upgrade to 8.

So, is there something I don't know about?

No, there's no performance benefit, DirectX 11.1 just offers native stereoscopic 3D, etc. Some features are nice, but then again, this is just released software, you want to wait a while for updates to smooth things out.

Yeah, Redmond wants to turn your x86 rig into a bigass smartphone. Idiots!

Apple did it first.

I downloaded and installed it on my ol' CQ62 Compaq, so I could check it out and familiarize myself with it... for to better support some of our users. But, my wife's computer fell victim to entropy, and she ended up with it. I haven't gotten any complaints from her yet, though she does think the romper-room start screen is a bit lame.
