well, the new amd cpu's are a socket 939, the only difference i've read on so far between the old 940 and the new 939 is, 939 requires unbuffered memory while 940 requires buffered memory, so can i run half-life 2 with a 940 with buffered memory....???

of course you can, but iit wont run as fast as the socket 939 fx-53 because registered memory is slower.

That setup will kick absolute ass. The difference in performance is negligible at your point on the performance curve ... you wouldn't notice it without benchmarks.

You will be able ot run high intensity DX9 games just fine with your CPU....although, I think more focus should be put on what video card you plan on using.

im planning on using an x800 xt radeon with 2gb of memory, i was only asking because im new to this stuff and i wanna make sure i don't spend my hard earned money on something old and outdated, but i really have no choice but to stick with the 940 because the website im buying the tower from dosn't offer the 939 chipset, but the tower with the specs i want comes out to be less than 2gran with shipping & handling and a free copy of far cry, its the best deal i've found since searching for a new tower, it was too good a deal so then thats when i realized the cpu was a 940, but i guess from your responses i should be able to run half-life 2 and most other games at max settings. the website is cyberpowersystem.com if you wanna go check it out.....anymore responses would be greatly appreciated...thx

read/writes will increase dramatically...not to mention load times will also increase...basically you will have 2 hard drives instead of one...and both those drives will share the task of reading and writing...that is what increases your performance.

RAID 0 basically uses 2 drives to do the work of one so your throughput will be mongo faster. The problem is if one of your drives dies, you can kiss your data goodby!

well if the system is that good, then go to the website i provided and go to custom made amd pc section, and do what you want depending on how much your willing to spend. my total including shipping and handling is less the 2 thousand by a little doh, its just the tower minus screen(which i plan on using my current crt untill i upgrade to an MultiSync FE2111SB crt)
and i basically left out things i really don't need right now, like speakers(ganna use my current ones) i left out the 56k modem, and upgraded to 2gb corsair xms memory, as for the memory im ganna change it to raid 0 which shouldn't make too much of a difference in my total price, i also left out the videocard because they don't provide x800 xt which i plan on buying at compusa and installing myself, they do offer the 6800 ultra and you get battlefield 1942 free for getting that card, and you also get far cry free, all this for about 2 thousand is a great deal anyone can get.....and i've searched through gateway/dell/alienware companies and this was the best deal i found, the website is cyberpowersystem.com, thx for the help.

By the way, don't hesitate to order from two or more websites just because one doesn't offer the hardware you want...check out www.newegg.com ...they will almost surely have what you want and have an excellent reseller reputation (especially among the forum members here and at Delphi).

Ask them if they'll throw in some free punctuation. You're a little short of commas, periods, and gasps of logic in that rant.

;)

PS: Be patient and wait for 939 to come out. A year from now, you'll thank me.
