Republicans are saying playing Warcraft disqualifies you from holding public office.
The Maine Republican Party has created a website detailing the online gaming history of a Maine State Senate candidate from Waterville, saying in her "online fantasy world," she gets away with "crude, vicious and violent comments."

Wow. Politicians will go after anything these days. Even if it has nothing to do with the job. Then again, this is politics we're talking about, logic was beaten to a pulp before eyes were on the prize.

We even have a local Republican WoW player who is thinking of quitting the party over this.. Some libertarians are calling it an assault on liberty.
If playing violent video games disqualifies you from holding public office then a lot of bright people are going to be left out of the process.

Do we want them even in office?

figures, but for some it is the only military experience they have or will get. kind of like sending hillary clinton over to the middle east, knowing they hate women and have no respect for them, they pay no attention to her.

There is allot of backlash against the Maine Republican party right now over this assault on our liberty. Some are suggesting the real issue is the Republican's are afraid of a woman acting aggressively , even while playing a fantasy game.

I think it's more that the Republicans are doing anything they can to try to save their seat in the state Senate by digging up any piece of potential dirt on non-Republican contenders. Personally, I think it's pretty tasteless on their part, not to mention the wasteful spending that had to go into the research & to pay for the website...

Here is a follow up article outlining the Republican party's position that playing violent video games makes you unqualified to hold public office.

The Republican attack on people who game continues.... :x

'World of Warcraft' candidate cleared of fundraising violation

World of Warcraft gamer Santiaga, will not face an investigation into her fundraising activities, despite a complaint filed by the Maine Republican Party.
The Republican Party launched a new attack against WoW gamer Colleen Lachowicz. The GOP leadership went ahead with their smear campaign even after they were told Colleen Lachowicz blog post had been cleared by the election ethics commissioner.

The Maine Ethics Commission rules unanimously that Democratic state Senate candidate Colleen Lachowicz didn't improperly coordinate with a national fundraising group.

The people of central Maine where not impressed by the Republican parties attempt to stigmatise computer gamers as unqualified to hold elected office..

The Morning Sentinel is reporting that Democrat Colleen Lachowicz has knocked Republican state Sen. Thomas Martin out of his seat.
Lachowicz, of Waterville, beat Martin, of Benton, by a 8,666-7,753 margin, the paper reported.
The race was highlighted internationally after a bizarre episode in which the Maine Republican Party made a website highlighting Lachowicz's online blogging and gaming histories, including her World of Warcraft character, "Santiaga."

Correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't people who we can consider "hardcore" gamers usually the demographic least interested in politics and voting? And there's still a substantial amount of them out there. You don't want to woo them to your cause?

The problem for the GOP is if they reach out to gamers they may lose support from their base. They have the same issue with race and gender.
