Maximum PC

Hi. We have an old LCD 17in (non-wide screen) monitor from 2001, KoGi L7eh-ta. Unfortunately, I set up the w7pro pc (w/radeon sapphire 5870 graphics card) on a 19 in widescreen & at 1440x900. But now it's time to move that new PC to the old monitor. I get a message on normal boot from the old monitor: "oversize. recommand [let's assume the Taiwan mfr. meant "recommend"] 1280x1064" . And then the screen goes black & I have to shut down or warm boot. So I get into safe mode and change the screen to that res. On normal mode the same error msg. comes up & screen goes dead again. Is the only out, to reinstall w7 but using the old monitor from the git-go? Thank you.

What make and model of widescreen monitor were you using before? Did it have a driver (my Samsung 18.5" widescreen LCD monitor does)? If so, have you tried uninstalling it in Safe Mode in Windows 7?

I would go into Device Manager while in safe mode and uninstall the monitor, reboot and let windows find the old monitor and install the proper driver for it. Then I think you might be good to go.

Thanks for all the replies. They were useful, though but if anyone refs your answers for their future ques., have them uninstall the display adaptor driver (there's no driver for the monitor in DM as far as I could see). But the "uninstall" & let w7 install did it, thanks again.
