Few years ago you could tell a file if it was HD or not mostly by it's size. One hour tv show regular def was about 350MB and the same file in HD was about 1GB.

I notice a lot of the movies/tv shows I download are in mkv format.

The whole 8th season of "House M.D." I have is 20GB and I only downloaded each episode in HD (or at least I thought). Most episodes are 1GB but some are 700MB.

There is a file available for the whole 8th season to download in 720p and it's 49GB. I'm concerned my previous downloads were not in HD. Is there any way I can check to confirm my downloads are the HD versions? I've watched enough HD and I really feel I have the HD versions but the file sizes are messing me up.

This smells of stuff being torrented, which I'm pretty sure this forum doesn't look too kindly upon.

Just open the damn file and leave it at 1x resolution mode. If it's not 1280x720 or higher, it's not HD. Simple.

Perhaps one should record and back up on their content on their own instead of exceeding any limit of fair use.
