Maximum PC

I'm sure no new news to most but..............I took my house vacuum and attached the skinny end to it and sucked out all the dust from my rig. I mean everything.

Forced working fans to stop so my vac could suck kinda thing and sucked out every piece of dust from the inside my rig and it made a HUGE.......HUGE difference. Knocked off 5 degrees from my rig's temp like it was nothing.

Like I said, I ain't tellin' you something you don't already know but I just wanted to remind my brothers and sisters to SUCK IT OUT once and awhile and that it will truely be worth it.

WAIT WAIT!!! You did that while the computer was on and running??? That is a major NO NO, always power off and unplug the machine before doing this, stopping a moving fan is never a good idea at all!!!! Not to mention you run a serious risk of accidentally shorting something out!

Dust is non-conductive, you can't short something out.

But you should do your dusting with the computer off and somewhere where there's tons of space for the dust to settle. Preferably away from your work space.

I wasn't very clear, was not talking about dust shorting things out, was more concerned with the fact that you could bump a molex connector or other power connectors and make accidental contact with something metallic inside the machine.

It's highly unlikely, considering that the power supply end of a plug is usually female. And usually any exposed metal is to return/ground. In fact most chassis on devices is basically return/ground.

While it's true air compressors will get way more than a vaccuum, you can't get rid of 100% of the grime. There's going to be a thin layer of particulate that'll stick to the PCBs and such thanks to static electricity. Which I guess you could use an ionizer, but who knows what that'll do to electronics.

All this talking about sucking... sheeesh

I must agree, a combo of both would be best.

Hit the hard to reach parts with compressed air and when everything is nice and loose go in AND SUCK IT OUT!!!!!

But seriously there is no denying the temp change instantly when it was over.
