How many games out there actually support widescreen gameplay (widescreen displays)?

Is that like more than some, but less than many?

Is it hard for developers to add support for widescreen gameplay? Just curious why it isn't more popular.

My only guess is that's it's more code to write than they feel like doing. Not many are really into the whole widescreen aspect thing. Many do have FOV features in the console though I belive.

I hope that Doom 3 has a widescreen mode, or can be configured for costum resolutions like Quake 3 was.

Of course one thing that strikes me as odd, is that widescreen Digital/HDTVs are 16x9. Yet widescreen computer monitor resolutions are typically 16x10.

It's not odd, 16:10 ratio yields pixel array dimensions easier to cope with in computer hardware and software. HDTVs on the other hand have to conform (somewhat) to MPEG2 encoding guidelines, one of them being the number of vertical lines has to be a multiple of 16...

Maybe someone can explain a few things to me about display technology. I have a vague idea on some things, but I'd rather be more confident. :)

What is Contrast ratio and what do the numbers mean (Ex: 400:1).
What is response time and why is it important.
