Maximum PC

After finally upgrading to a new beast, I'm trying to sell my old computer, which I think still has some value and could maybe help pay back a little tiny bit of the new one haha.

Assembled from 2005.

Screens are Dell + LG both 21"1680
Kingston 8GB
GTX 9800
Intel processor 2.8ghz
2 x DVD RW

I would sell it with a blank 300GB HDD, (keyboard and mouse).

What is the processor exactly? Because Intel Processor is pretty vague. Either way, the most you could probably get out of that from someone who knows what they're doing is $300 or so. You might be able to spoof some kid (or his parents) for a higher price.

The most I would expect though is $500.

Oh, my price estimation was without the LCDs. I didn't see those.

And I'm honestly thinking that kleinkinstein is one of those "gotta have the best of everything!" kids. Yes 24" monitors are nice, but 21" monitors are also nice too and it's 1680x1050, which is still a pretty good resolution. I'd drop about $100-$150, each, depending on the condition. The tower itself though, they don't get as much respect.

So altogether, you could start at $500.

- Donate it for the tax write-off
- Craiglist it locally for $500 OBO
- Move this thread to the appropriate sub someone!
- Stop with the MaxPC bashing already
- Bah I don't care whatever

Considering I'm using a 17", a 21" would be a huge upgrade for someone like me on a shoestring budget. But since it's six years old and still works perfectly, I'm "stuck" with it.

Just curious, what is in your "new beast" you just upgrade to?

Clean it up then throw a lightweight distro onto it. You can use it to surf the internet, play basic games and use an office suite (Libre Office or M.S. Office 2010 via Wine). It is always good to have some backups in the house. I had a laptop HDD and a desktop PSU go bad around the same time. Luckily I had other general use computers besides them.

As for the HD, I'm selling the PC with a 300GB maxtor external that I've taken apart and stuck in, as I wanted to keep what I had on the drives I bought with the computer. The graphics card is an EVGA GeForce 9800 that replaced a EVGA Geforce 8800 Ultra SuperClocked SILENT 768MB GDDR3 HDTV/Dual DVI (PCI-Express) - Retail (768-P2-E887-AR) £414.99 1 £414.99 (that gave up it's life)


Based on this info, what would you reevaluate sell price as (+ what would you sell the screens for together/separately? (If I keep the LG as a bedroom TV and only sell the Dell 22)

Screens are now Two ASUS simple 24" and one ASUS VG278HE (for 3d gaming )

That about covers it.

^ I always find it difficult to determine a fair market value on older parts, so I will leave that to more knowledgeable peeps. But a 22-inch panel for the bedroom could possibly be smallish, no?


I have some questions/concerns:

- Are you sure you want to spend the premium that goes with a GTX 690? I'm sorry if it is a silly question since it seems you know what you are doing, but it is a $1k GPU! I surmise that you want to do the nVidia 3d Surround setup and that is why you need the GTX 690? Also, you could give yourself the option to go 120 FPS on a 120 hz panel? I've read it is nice.

I'm not an expert on Surround vision, but I'm not sure about doing it across 3 different monitors and of different size. For example, the Surround 2d (for example, getting one 5760 x 1200 screen across 3 panels) I think works with pretty much anything as long as the resolution on each panel is appropriate (in this case, 1920 x 1200). But getting the stereoscopic Surround 3d requires 3 of the same 3d capable monitors.

Hey if you got the $ and the desire, go for it! But I just want to make certain you know what you're getting in to

- A 1200 PSU is probably way overkill. Even with a single GTX 690 it is overkill, as 850 watts would suffice. Unless you SLI yikes.

- Why the 128 GB x 2 RAID? Why not a single 512 GB drive? Larger SSDs tend to be faster anyway.

- Since you don't mind spending the money, consider replacing the Sabertooth mobo with a Maximus Formula here. It is an Extended-ATX form factor, but no worries as your Cooler Master HAF X tower will accomodate.

- Samsung RAM dammit.

Do you have an estimated budget for this beast? What do you want to be able to do with it?

Oh no, that's already been bought.

I do agree the 3 different sizes monitors is a bit annoying, but i deal with it.

and yeah all of it was a bit overkill, but its gorgeous xD!!

SSD was a good deal and was cheaper then buying 256 or 512

As for RAM, I never buy samsung products ever.
