I just finished reading Operation Upgrade in the July issue and I'm confused. The Dell was not upgraded, it was completely rebuilt. You spent over $1000 doing this. Perhaps in the broadest sense of the word it was indeed an upgrade, but I would argue that once you replace the motherboard (which usually requires a new CPU and memory as well) you effectively have a new computer. At what point does it cease to be an upgrade and becomes transplanting older parts into a new computer? Furthermore, for $1500, I could (and did) build a whole new computer!
