An eight year old thread?
There is an almost free game site, GOG.com, Good Old Games.
They take old games and recode them for Windows XP, Windows Vista, and Windows 7 [32-bit and 64-bit].
On occasion I still break out the 1997 game of the year, Total Annihilation: Commander Pack, still a great game to play, though I have not played it online for over a decade.
And, now they offer Wing Commander 4, The Price of Freedom. If you like space sims, or are disappointed with your $60 space sim, try $5.99 for Wing Commander 4, "one of the greatest space sims of all time, and some even consider it the greatest one of all".
"It is one of those games that did everything right. This is one of the few games that actually successfully manages to integrate a lot of FMV into the action, mostly because it uses trained film actors and directors. The combat is straightforward, fluid, and entertaining. The characters are as believable and memorable as they come. The orchestrated music -- just perfect. Finally, its enthralling story is both deep and plausible -- a combination that is often lost in modern games."
And, it comes with DVD-quality cutscenes that actually fit into the game, many people compare it to watching a movie, except you are in it.
Sometimes GOG.com run specials for as low as $2.39 U.S., and some games are FREE!
I am sure many of you know about GOG.com, however, I posted this for those that do not.
