I am having a weird problem with the internet over where I am at. My mom and sister flipped out that there was no internet. I came down did the unplug routine and the computer showed that it has a strong connection to the router. Despite of that, it still wouldn't connect to the internet. I did happen to noticed that it is the Win7 compy's that have this problem, the XP's act like there is nothing wrong and I don't know about the exchange student's macbook.

I had already unplugged for up to 10min and that didn't fixed it. I went to check out the coaxial, there're fine. Entered the IP address i.e 27.64.17.100 (don't try it, it could be a bad place). I also checked the drivers for the WUSB54g v.4 drivers, they say it is working properly. Is there anything else I can do?

Sounds like you have a virus on the win 7 pcs. Try running Smitfraudfix, Combofix and install, update and run Malware bytes in Safemode with Networking. If you have a virus this should get rid of it. Don't know nothing about Macs and don't want to.

I think something has gone wrong with one of your pc's registry. Try downloading windows essentials, check your firewall as well and ensure pc is virus free

Hey fixed it a few days ago, bought a new netgear router wnr2000 and apparently it doesn't get along with win7 for some reason. Did some research on the forums and found out I need to simply change the SSID. Problem solved.

For those who can't be helpful....Steve....let's try baby steps. Unplug the modem and router. After about 30 sec or so plug in the modem and wait for the lights go come back. Now plug in the router. See if you have internet connection. If not wireless check hard wired.

- Still no connection. Try a ipconfig / release then renew
- run ipconfig and see if you are getting an ip or a 169.254.x.x address
- Check device manager for any errors on the NIC cards
- Checking for malware is not a bad idea but check the basics first.

if you are pulling an ip then you could be infected but not unnecessary.

Flipper, he has connection on his XP machines on the same router, that is why I suggested he may have a virus blocking his connection on the win 7 machines.

Hello! I am having problems when installing programs for my laptop (Win7), when I tried to install in our desktop comp (win xp) it was successfully installed. I have also tried fixing the compatibility issues, but then it still didn't work. How can I troubleshoot such probs. Thank you so much.

thomasallen,

You should have started a "New Topic" using the button next to "Reply" to ask your question, that way things don't get confused when answering the person that started this thread.
