So I have 2 XFX GTS 250 core edition 512mb cards.

I am running a Crosshare Formula V for my mobo.

So the question is I'm running my cards in pci express slots 2 and 3 which is making them run in native 8x.

If I ran my cards in 1 and 3 it should be native 16x is there a big difference between native 8x and native 16x.

I'm not running slots 1 and 3 becuase it blocks my wireless card slot.

Graphics cards have been shown to work at, more or less, full performance down to x4. And this was a high end card.

If you have the option to use 16X on both video cards, to it! Here are some benchmarks I found, they are old but still relevant. You gain about 10% with the old benchmark and with the new tech we have today it may be a bit more and well worth using as my past and present experience tells me. I have use both SLI and Crossfire, which I am running in my present rig.

The only caveat I found so far is you must shut down both Sli and Crossfire to play old games that were written for one video card. Baldur's Gate is one of them...yup, still play it once and again.

For GTS250 though? In SLI, they share a load and both don't need x16's to feed. They're still basically 9800+ cards and never flooded PCIe 1.1. IMO, they're both fine in x4 2.0 mode.

I still use a pair of these. I don't see how they'd choke any slot.

They redid this with the GTX 480. Which is where I got my x4 comment from.
