Maximum PC

Ok guys I really need the help of the maximum pc readers on this one. Recently my PC started completely turning off no warning at all on heavy games(SupCom FA,Tribes Ascend,BF3). I thought it was my PSU so I got a new one and it stopped for about 2 1/2 weeks. Then it randomly did it again. I thought ok mybe that was just a random fail. But then it started doing it more often like when before I got the new PSU. Now it does it just as much. I ran the PSU test on OCCT DX10,fullscreen. Took about 10-15mins to crash,did CPU shorter then that. Any ideas? My mobo is also brand new its a AsRock 880GM-LE FX. I have to send it off on its warranty cause it stays in single channel mode when I put the other 4GB DDR3 stick in. So I thought it might be the mobo failing.

Make sure you're putting the other memory stick into the correct slot for dual channel operation (read the manual). If the motherboard is actually bad, it may be causing your problems. Another possible cause is heat. Download a temperature monitoring program, such as Core Temp, to monitor the temps when you're stressing it.

that motherboard only has two memory slots I think.

Well my CPU got up to about 62C when it crashed with the CPU stress test with OCCT. Would that be a reason? Cause my Video card doesn't feel hot at all when it crashes. Yes it only has 2 slots.

no, that is not to hot, it is within the specs of the cpu, I would test the memory, one stick at a time.

Yea well its not no but my mobo was set to shutoff at 65 which it hit at some point. So I disablled that and plugged in the 120mm case fan I had and the temps came down about 10c and no more crashes!

that still does not cure the inability to run in dual channel. I would test both sticks in the known working slot, one at a time, to make sure they both work as they should. then try them in the second slot and see if they give errors, or just plain do not work, if they do then its the slot.

Well I have already tried that and yes they both work and pass tests in the 1st slot. 2nd one does about 2 test for either sticks and then crash.

It's probably a bad slot, you should RMA it. It might be a weird error with incompatible memory, you may want to check if the ram is on the motherboard's compatibility list or Google if anyone else has had problems with that motherboard/ram combo.

It is compatible with my mobo as its on the list. Well ok the model is on the list but its on the list in seperate 4GB sticks. I got the 8GB set of it.

"The List", is basically BS. What are listed on them as being qualified can switch the actually tested IC's at any given time and carry the same part number.

But I'm not blaming the memory as much as I am the chance that you got a bum memory controller to talk to them. And where is this memory controller? hmmmm....
